Mats Strömqvist Prof. Mats Strömqvist Ph.D.

Head of Division of CBRN Defence and Security/ FOI;



Dr. Mats Strömqvist is since March 2012 Head of Division, CBRN Defense and Security at the Swedish Defense Research Agency.


Before entering defense research, Dr Strömqvist had more than 20 years background from leading positions in the Biotech- and Pharma industry. With a doctorate degree in Biochemistry, he started his career in the mid 80-ties as a Protein Chemist at Pharmacia AB and continued thereafter in 1988 to be the Director of Protein Chemistry at the Biotech-company Symbicom, a position is which he headed many biologics- and small molecule drug projects. Upon the takeover of Symbicom by Astra-Hässle AB in the mid-nineties, he was appointed Site Manager of Astra-Hässle (now AstraZeneca) in Umeå and in the late nineties he was the Project Director of a preclinical program at AstraZeneca. In 2001 he was recruited to Arexis AB, as the Director of Protein Biochemistry. 2005 he joined Biovitrum as senior scientific advisor. In 2007, he started up as Managing Director of Biotera AB, a consultancy business for pharmaceutical development, and in November 2008 he accepted the position as Chief Executive Officer of Omnio Healer AB. Dr Strömqvist was in 1994 appointed Assistant Professor in Biochemistry at the University of Umeå and in 2002 he was appointed Adjunct Professor in Molecular Biology at the University of Gothenburg. Dr Strömqvist has also been the chairman of the board of Cantargia AB and had other board positions. At present he is a board member of the Umeå Biotech Incubator and the CBRNE center in Umeå.
